I was just reading about Machiavellian traits, like selfishness, understanding the struggle of others but not feeling the need to do anything about it, gaslighting and playing the victim, and changing the narrative to suit one’s personal goals.
Apparently it often stems from childhoods where parents believe there is a single homogenous way their children should live their lives, providing conditional love only when the child meets their strict expectations, and where the child is often punished for straying beyond the parents expected norms.
