Farmers in northern Greece began blocking border crossings again on Tuesday, a day after they turned down an invitation to hold a meeting with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
Mitsotakis is set to meet at 3 p.m. with other groups of farmers who agreed to dialogue.
The blockades are affecting the Promachonas, Evzoni on the Bulgarian border crossings, and Niki check point that leads to North Macedonia, affecting trucks and private vehicles. In Western Macedonia, farmers will block the Siatista junction on the Egnatia Motorway and the Filotas junction at noon. Nikaia farmers plan to block the old Larissa–Volos national road in the afternoon.
In some areas, including Nevrokopi, Drama, actions were postponed due to extreme cold. Authorities said emergency vehicles and passenger traffic will use detours where possible.
The protests follow a decision by the farmers’ blockade coordination committee not to enter into dialogue, while the broader Panhellenic Committee is meeting later on Tuesday to plan its next steps.
