  1. > Non-therapeutic male circumcision is customary in African, Jewish and Muslim traditions and legal in the UK.

    **It should be made illegal.**

  2. I’m so glad that this is finally getting some attention in the media.

It’s been one of those “why is nobody talking about this?” things of mine for years.

Absolutely insane that the surgical butchering of a child’s genitals by any Tom, Dick or Harry is seen as a protected “cultural practice“ in the UK in 2026. And in any other year prior, quite frankly!

  3. Ecstatic-World1237 on

Unless they can somehow justify a muslim only ban, any attempt to ban this will be met by wails of “antisemitism” from the usuals.

  4. Winston_Carbuncle on

Completely unnecessary with modern sanitation except for specific medical cases.

If adults elect to have it done then that’s one thing but I personally find it abhorrent that this is done to infants. Often without anaesthetic.

Why are what are basically home surgery kits even legal to sell on amazon? Anyone who engages in this should be thrown in prison for child abuse. Don’t care what their religion says, we wouldn’t allow that excuse for any other forms of child abuse.

  6. Im all for live and let live but as an atheist I do find it odd that people point at a dusty old book and call it justification for chopping bits of their baby’s dicks off.

Ban it except for medical necessity.

It’s a sick, disgusting practice that should have been abolished years and years ago.

Politicians need to grow a backbone and tell these ‘cultures’ that we don’t mutilate children in this country.

  8. FGM is (quite rightly) considered a horrific, brutal act, how can anyone not see MGM the same way? The fact that this is legal in the 21st century is appalling.

  9. Kits? Wow!

Putting general concerns about circumcision aside surely doing them at home should be banned?

  10. Imagine thinking you know better than evolution. Utterly backwards and should be illegal, an infant can’t consent to being mutilated.

Thanks for notifying me of this existing

First one to pass out at the next sesh is in for a wild ride

  12. I’m as anti-religion as the next person, but maybe we should be looking at Amazon for allowing people to buy and sell these instead of moaning about the people buying them for once

  13. We’ve made cropping of dogs ears illegal but you can still trim off parts of the male genitalia. Ban it and enforce it.

This is no different to the slow pushing back of the excesses of Christianity, the power of the Church and resulting culture that needed to take place over centuries in the UK.

  14. >Religious or cultural circumcision can be funded by the NHS in Scotland as long as **doctors** are satisfied the operation is in the child’s **best interests** and carried out between six and nine months old, in hospital, by trained paediatric surgeons under general anaesthesia.

    “doctors”, that’s not a doctor.

And if the “best interests” is their parent won’t love them otherwise, that’s not a parent either.

It won’t be banned because Starmer and Labour are spineless and caputured by the muslim vote.

This is where the new party of whatever it’s called might actaully do some good, bu drawing out muslim voters to them, away from Labour, it might make making this an issue more paletable.

If reform MP’s start brining this up and pushing against Labour I can only see that as a good thing.

But they when we ban it, will we think, why the hell are we letting everyone that supported this or ignored this get away with it?
    Nope.
No-one will be put in prison after the fact and it will still continue to happen underground once we ban it.

We’re too tolerant of the intolerant.

This isn’t going anywhere anytime soon i’m afraid.

It should count as medical and parental neglect to perform a surgical procedure on an infant that is not needed medically speaking. I don’t care if it is done for cultural or religious reasons. This backwards, superstitious nonsense can get the fuck out of my country.

  17. It should be illegal, but it never will be for two reasons:

    * The ADL and every other international Jewish advocacy group, as well as pro-circumcision academics recycling their own slop-studies, will [dogpile the proposition](https://www.adl.org/resources/letter/letter-icelands-minister-foreign-affairs-proposed-male-circumcision-ban) with a mixture of political pressure and “expertise”, the latter of which will be swallowed up by cargo cult scientists who don’t have paywall access and can’t read a funnel plot, yet “trust the experts” based purely on peer review – **peer** being the operative word. For every slop-piece churned out in a day by Kreiger and Morris, it takes me and other academics years to get [an erratum](https://psycnet.apa.org/record/2020-14632-025) out of their publishers. In the meantime, the [World Health Organization ](https://www.who.int/teams/global-hiv-hepatitis-and-stis-programmes/hiv/prevention/voluntary-medical-male-circumcision)will continue to advocate for mutilation on the dubious findings of this remarkably small and circular field of academia.
    * There is an empathy gap – a big one. Be upset, downvote me, whatever, **but it exists**. The reality is if this were being done to girls for religious reasons, we would ban it, and anyone with an issue would be told to accept our decision or go to jail. There would be no debate. Thousands of African women argued and petitioned **against** the FGM Act – we told them in no uncertain terms that we were not going to negotiate this with them, and that if they were found to engage in the practice, they could expect a lengthy custodial sentence. We will protect women and girls at all costs – we **won’t** protect boys.

  18. The barbarity of circumcision aside, you’d have to be clinically insane to purchase medical equipment off of Amazon.

It’s one thing if it’s coasters or pillows or whatever made in some sketchy Chinese factory with dubious QC, it’s another if you’re talking about something used to perform surgery.

“This circumcision kit accidentally removed my boy’s glans, 3/10 would not buy again” is not something that should ever be expected to read in reviews on a customer website.

  19. dodgy medical devices being sold on amazon is nothing new, you can buy all sorts of wonderful quack devices that will puncture your eardrums or give you sepsis.

  20. Some compare FGM and Circumcision here . Let me throw my 2c ,how is dog ear cropping illegal in UK and Circumcision completly legal? Blows my mind

  21. idontlikemondays321 on

If I tell people that I’ve found a book that says I should chop my son’s little toe off because it would please the main character of the book, I would quite rightly be sectioned.

We need to stop making excuses for harmful beliefs just because they were founded a long time ago.

If 100% of boys are born with foreskins, it’s obviously there for a reason. It’s not a birth defect.

  22. The fuckers who practice this would turn to cigar cutters if they needed to.

Point being, circumcision of children for non-medical reasons, or for medical reasons not as a last resort, should be made illegal; should only be performed by a qualified medical pofessional; and non-adherence should be treated and prosecuted as child abuse. And if a child dies as a result of blood loss of infection they should be prosecuted for manslaughter or even murder. And with zero exceptions written into the law.

I’m not Islamophobic or anti-semitic, but the physical abuse of children through practices like ritual circumcisiion and FGM can never be justified.

And IT IS physical abuse. The child may not remember the pain, and in adulthood they may not regret having being circumcised, but it is the intentional infliction of physical injury on children ffs.

  23. Sadly perverse cultural and religious practices continue to be defended by the ethically challenged

  24. I live in the UK and cannot understand how it can be legal to mutilate the genitals of a baby, anywhere in the world.

  25. Atheist (and an immigrant actually) here, and I’m those types that the right would label as “woke lefties”. Circumcision is a barbaric practice that shouldn’t be legal in an allegedly progressive democracy. Ban it.

  26. SuspiciousMinder on

I was briefly married to a Jewish person. We didn’t have children but we argued about this a lot. I was completely against the idea even though I have phimosis. Obviously, she would refer to this in arguing her case which led to the quite humorous moment of “stop using my own penis against me!”

She made the argument that if I were opposed to her cutting a future son’s foreskin off then I would have to also be opposed to her getting his hair cut or I would be a hypocrite. She wasn’t joking.

This wasn’t why we broke up but around the time that we did, it so happened two of her friends were getting it done to their kid. It’s this whole event everyone gathers for and because it was covid times, they had a live stream on Facebook. I didn’t watch the actual moment but I saw some of the stream in the build up and at the same time as feeling sickened by the whole thing I felt massively relieved it never came to that moment for me. I don’t think I could have let her go through with it but if I had, I don’t think I’d have been able to look myself in the mirror again.

  27. It should be illegal and banned permanently, but of course they won’t do that because some people will argue they have a ‘religious right’ to mutilate a baby’s genitals

It should at least be more controlled and restricted.
