The Swedish military will contribute to Danish defence efforts in Greenland, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson announced on Wednesday. Earlier, the government in Copenhagen announced that Danish and NATO military forces were increasing their presence in Greenland.
“Several officers from the Swedish Armed Forces are arriving in Greenland today. They are part of a group from several allied countries. Together, they will prepare for upcoming elements within the framework of the Danish exercise Operation Arctic Endurance. It is at Denmark’s request that Sweden is sending personnel from the Armed Forces,” Kristersson wrote on Platform X.
The Swedish Prime Minister added that the group is “jointly preparing further activities within the Danish exercise Operation Arctic Endurance.” Earlier on Wednesday, the Danish Ministry of Defence and the Greenlandic Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Danish and NATO military forces are increasing their presence in Greenland. According to the statement, this is being achieved “through exercises in close cooperation with NATO allies.”
