UAE’s EDGE Group and Spain’s Indra Group have agreed to set up a new defense manufacturing entity in Spain focused on loitering munitions and smart weapons, a move aimed at strengthening European sovereign capabilities and meeting growing defense demand across the continent.

The deal will create a dedicated company that draws on EDGE’s expertise in advanced systems and Indra’s established industrial base.

To be built in León, the facility will produce loitering munitions and related technologies, with Indra investing 15 to 20 million euros ($17.4 to $23 million) to build out drone manufacturing capacity.

The modular manufacturing capacity being developed in Spain comes amid growing urgency in Europe to secure supply chains for critical defense technologies and to reduce reliance on external suppliers for advanced weapons systems.

EDGE’s Global Footprint

EDGE’s expansion outside the UAE has accelerated in recent years with concrete institutional footprints and partnerships in several countries.

In 2023, EDGE acquired a majority stake in Milrem Robotics, a Tallinn‑based developer of robotics and autonomous systems, marking one of its first major European industrial entries.

The same year, EDGE also took a 50 percent share in Brazilian defense specialist SIATT, a company developing smart weapons and missile technologies, and by September 2025 had inaugurated a new headquarters and production facility in Brazil, expanding R&D and manufacturing capabilities.

This facility supports missile systems such as anti‑ship and coastal surveillance technologies, and is expected to generate hundreds of jobs locally.

EDGE also broadened its European presence with the acquisition of unmanned aerial systems manufacturer ANAVIA in Switzerland, including a new headquarters and UAS prototyping center in Bilten, and maintains a growing international network of partnerships supporting co‑development, technology transfer, and localized production.
