Wondering what it would be like to live in this area of Finland for… no specific reason. Nothing to do with the fact that I live in America and the DHS is quoting the KKK on Twitter or anything.

Good luck, best thing to do is go for 3 months and see how you like it, as far as living in Finland full time, that will be the difficult part.

    3. Well they picked the part that isn’t actually part of Finland so that’s a little unfortunate.

I just was in Rauma last September on holiday. It’s a nice quiet town, historical centre, some nice places to eat, large shopping centre, nothing crazy, but I liked it. I’ve been there 2 nights though – so couldn’t judge as a local.

You’d fit right in, as the people from the west coast are also incapable of speaking actual finnish!

You can take a party boat to Stockholm from Turku. Sometimes they are priced as low as 10 euros, for a 12 or 24 hours cruise

Turku is said to be the asshole of finland. It’s kinda like new jersey is in america.

    8. In a nutshell:
Nice, peaceful(boring?) area to live in. Small cities (210k – 15k residents) to choose from, or you can live literally in the middle of nowhere if that’s what you prefer.

Unemployment is high at the moment and basic things like groceries and such are quite expensive.
Getting a job is probably the biggest hurdle.

Winters are dark and last anywhere from 3,5 to 5 months. If you are lucky, there might even be snow!

Most of the people speak at least basic english, but some finnish is required if you want to have an actual social contract with locals.

Come for a longer visit to find out more, but not in summer, because that’s awesome but in reality not what it’s like most of the time.

Persnickety fact check that doesn’t change the overall nature of your post at all:

For the record, the viral posts claiming that this is “quoting the KKK” don’t appear to be verified anywhere I can see, and [Newsweek ](https://www.newsweek.com/trump-administration-ice-dhs-post-lyrics-criticized-11346700)explicitly says that there’s no evidence it’s KKK-linked.

The same piece notes that a lot of DHS’s/ICE’s social media posts are certainly leaning into rhetoric and an aesthetic that are pretty damn close to those used by white supremacists. Obviously this isn’t much better, just wanted to make sure the facts are clear.

It’s nice I live here I’m from Florida but it’s a bit tough with job market and the gooberment is running the country in to the ground but it is nice to live here

    11. Turku is my favorite city in Finland – beautiful architecture, clean and safe streets, and a gorgeous archipelago- and they have multiple universities there, if you’re looking for a pathway to residency 🙂 I’m not sure how many English language programs there are but surely there are some. Many people in this region speak Swedish as a first language.

Turku is a great city to live in, Rauma is such a small place that it could be a problem. Pori might be between the two, except the people are crazy (jokingly)

    13. Better not ask for food and hay from the local peasants when visiting. Lalli or his relatives might be at large still

And if you call donuts with the wrong name, they might throw into the Aurajoki

    14. That area you marked contains mostly forests and fields and small towns, if we count out Turku and Rauma. Maybe you could also extend to Pori. Summers are quite nice if it ain’t raining too much, but autumns and springs mainly suck and winter could be nice for a while.

Aside people talking about Turku, that big blue blot is Pyhäjärvi Lake and on east coast of it is Säkylä, small town with all the basic services at walking distance and nice outdoor activities at ridge area. Lake is surrounded by local work camps we call summer cottages so during summers the area is more bustling.

People talked about employment nowadays being difficult. If your profession can be done telecommuting guess you won’t have any problem moving anywhere as internet works well. Of you’re excellent welder maybe shipyards at those cities would. There is Olkiluoto Nuclear Plant and car manufacturing plant at Uusikaupunki between Turku-Rauma. No idea are they or their subcontractors hiring though.

Beside cities area have scattered communities. If you want peace and quite and go nuts without bothering anyone it is quite easily achieved.

I LOOOOOOOOOVE Finland and am absolutely horrified by my country (US), but unemployment is so high and the Finns are struggling to get real work.

Even if it were pretty easy to immigrate, I wouldn’t want to make things harder for Finns.

Canada should set some places at the table, though.

It’s been said that if Finland had an asshole, it would be in Turku-region.
Why u want to be an asshole?
      Kiitos ja anteeksi.
      Tack og hej.
