COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – Dominion Energy will conduct an annual test of its Lake Murray Dam sirens next week, the company said on Thursday.

The tests are slated to take place Tuesday, Jan. 20, at 1 p.m. The system will sound off for three minutes, Dominion said.

The inundation system includes 10 rotating sirens. They are located near the Saluda River in Richland and Lexington counties.

The sirens are programmed to alert surrounding areas to tune in to local media stations for more information if an actual emergency occurs at the Lake Murray dam or its backup dam.

One-minute siren tests are also conducted each month as part of Dominion’s operation license with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
