A deranged, pathological blowhard who can’t handle the slightest discourtesy or criticism, who can’t cope with any measure of humiliation, embarrassment or defeat, which is why every competition or election that he’s ever lost has been accused of being “rigged” against him.
It’s also why Trump’s failure to win the prize resulted in the president of FIFA creating a fake award and organizing a fake event to hand Trump a participation trophy for bringing fake peace to the world. An exhaustive effort just to stroke his ego in return for some accommodations.
It’s why Trump imposed an extremely high tariff rate on India after Modi denied that Trump was chiefly involved in mediating the conflict between India and Pakistan, and why Pakistan received a much lower tariff rate in response to its officials announcing that they were going to nominate him for the Nobel.
It’s why Trump has not been able to shut up about it since the winner of the Peace Prize was announced, and why Trump continues to tout that he ended multiple wars despite all evidence to the contrary.
And it’s also why Machado made the decision to “share” her award with Trump, despite it not being recognized by the prize committee, so she might convince him to recognize *her* claim to power in exchange for the greatest form of flattery Trump could receive.
While I’m not surprised, it’s still baffling that Trump used his newfound political leverage over a country he just invaded for oil as a means to extort his way into securing a participation trophy from an opposition leader whose chance at power depends on whether or not she is willing to “share” her award with Trump, and an award he never came close to earning, not in a million years.
The future of the Venezuelan people hinges on Trump’s narcissistic fantasies and his insecurities over failing to win a prize that he didn’t deserve in the first place. Think about how insane that sounds.

His new appetite for expansionism and his foreign policy are just projections of his ego. His own self-worth is all that matters to him. These extrajudicial murders, bombings and military incursions were never about drugs or “liberating the people of Venezuela,” especially considering how the Trump administration has been weighing the decision to keep the current regime in power as a reward for their continuing compliance.
This was always about justifying military escalation, foreign conflict and regime change for the sake of oil overseas.
Moreso, Trump’s whole imperialist crusade is a launching point for broader US military involvement in countries or territories that don’t submit to Trump’s deranged and narcissistic whims. A move that empowers Trump to attack and/or ensnare any foreign state he deems a threat or a strategic boon to the US.
It shouldnt be difficult to acknowledge the flagrant hypocrisy of someone clamoring for a participation trophy for his pretend “peacemaking” efforts while he commits crimes against humanity without justification, and while he reshapes US foreign policy to align with his own self-interests and converts his base from so-called “America first” isolationists into staunch supporters of US interventionism.
This also doesn’t begin to address Trump’s rampant militarism at home.
The hypocrisy is astounding. While Trump and his supporters are demanding that he receive a Nobel Prize for his feckless efforts at ending multiple wars (which he hasn’t) and “negotiating” an imaginary peace around the world, he is simultaneously behaving like a militaristic dictator; federalizing troops and masked ICE agents to occupy the streets of cities around the country where they are terrorizing the public, cracking down on dissent and suppressing civil liberties.
Yes, while Trump and his flock are boasting about his alleged peacemaking efforts, he is also waging war against the American people and centralizing authoritarian control over the country.
