Would be a good strategy to try and split the UK and EU in two on the matter. The EU will of course object, oppose, not recognise it as US land, and so begins the tit for tat on trade and sanctions.
The UK could avoid all that if they simply ‘bend the knee’. However, would it be worth it? Brits will kick off against economic hits from trade sanctions but also punish Starmer for bending and spreading to Trump on an attack on European allies. Side with Trump today defers economic harm, but then makes reconciliation with the EU (A Starmer goal) far harder. Tricky one.

Yep, that seems like a good way to ease tension, threaten everyone else that won’t back your plan for invasion.
