The world is the way it is because of capitalist elites and the governments that they have bought and paid for. Mark Carney doesn’t get to contribute to that environment and then throw up his hands and say sorry guys that’s just the way it is.
Its become clear that those in power will do anything to maintain the status quo. They are willing to forfeit our lives to do so.
They are all accountable.

Honestly we might not love it , but Trudeau’s policy of dealing with the world the way he thought it should be was no longer appropriate for the way the world has changed since 2015

Still grappling with this approach, and maybe it’s because I’ve only really been politically conscious for the last 3 years. But I had the same thought process when I heard the news about UAE and China too.
Another interesting thing, sort of related, came up in the episode of The Bridge yesterday. Chantal Hebert noted that, when Trudeau tried to mend the trading relationship with China, it’s like he tried to argue that China was “getting better” or that, by trading with China, we can help them through their human rights issues. She noted that it seems like Carney is not taking that approach. Basically that the current government is entering with “eyes wide open”, knowing full well the devil they’re dealing with.
On the flip side, Carney keeps talking about building up trade with “allies that share our values”. Then he goes to UAE, or Qatar, or China. Pick one.

“When you’ve got skin in the game, you stay in the game.” Realpolitik from the leader for our times. Engaging in real ways with these states creates leverage not just against the US, but those we engage with also. I for one am enjoying watching the man cook.
