  1. When I first started reading the EU sub I was wondering why everyone was so negative about EU, now I kinda get it. They seem to have this sense that backing down and soft words are the intelligent way to handle things, when in reality it’s just fear. EU with the common wealth is the best chance at being a counter balance to the world powers. We re still in the meeting wondering if the letter is written too strongly.

I should have clued in when everyone was defending the Rutte guy.

“Tariffs risk making Europe and the United States poorer and undermine our shared prosperity. If Greenland’s security is at risk, we can address this inside NATO.”

WAKE THE FUCK UP. Where have you been in the past year. YEAH HE DOESN’T FUCKING CARE.

  2. Finally, a President who understands that the only way to lower the price of eggs in Ohio is to annex a 800,000-square-mile ice sheet from a confused Scandinavian monarchy.

  3. Of course, there’s no excuse to say US needs Greenland as its own to protect it from Russia or China. Greenland is NATO territory. If Russia and China attempt anything, all NATO countries are obligated to defend it. But somehow, in Trump’s logic, the US can’t defend it unless it’s part of the US. Which puts the whole concept of NATO in question.

    To whomever it may concern.

When Hitler and his Nazis met with European leaders to solidify the Munich Accords: the Nazis were surprised their own phones were working (their infrastructure was terrible), and they were shocked that the leaders were so willing to appease them. In fact the latter emboldened Hitler.

So the lesson is, ignore hollow threats and stand up to bullies always.

  5. > The bloc’s top diplomat Kaja Kallas said tariffs would hurt prosperity on both sides of the Atlantic, while distracting the EU from its “core task” of ending Russia’s war in Ukraine.

    Hmmmm

  6. How will US national security be improved, when they are expelled from all their European bases?

  7. Expert-Length871 on

Even after all these years, having met pleasant and intelligent Americans, I still don’t understand anything.

Do they really believe this crap? Do they think we’re four idiots armed with spears? Or that our economic capacity doesn’t surpass theirs?

What’s more, do they think that if they start an economic war against us, they’ll win?

China is rubbing its hands with glee over all this.

Pure business. And if we have to deal with them… so what?

The USA is the embodiment of the stab in the back, not to mention the lunatics who think they have supported us or given us something.

And that our society, where we don’t live in fear of dying of cancer because we can’t afford treatment (yes, it’s very common, but no less true), is weak.

    Frankly, go to hell.

  8. History teaches us that giving into bullies rarely works out well for them, they either end up dead in bunkers, shot by execution squads or hanging upside down by their heels.

Trump doesn’t seem to realise that the countries he’s aiming tariffs at have other global markets, that they’re more than happy to deal with, the only people that’ll lose out on this, will be the hard pressed, beleaguered US citizens.

Ok, look. I would try to explain to a lot of Europeans how they have missed an absolute avalanche of red flags from America but at this point I think you can all see that its game over.

America has been teetering on the edge of destruction for over a decade. Massive debt. Gutted education. A cracked moral compass. Weak will politicians. Corporations out of control. As well as an increasingly unhappy populace.

Its over. Time for everyone else to plan a world without America for a while. Europe has a long history. So take a long look at it. How many empires have come and gone? How many great nations that could never fall, have fallen. This shouldnt be a shock. Its just another turn of the wheel.

I hope America comes out better from this but its going to take an entire generation of work to repair the damage thats been done. Dont be one of those dolts that think Trump being gone will change anything. This problem is deep and widespread.

Europe. Stop looking to America. Stop thinking it will go back to normal. Stop trying to save the old alliances. You cant save whats already dead.

  10. If I had control of those European troops I would start massing them outside of Israel – for our national security of course.

Dems and Republicans are on the same page on Israel, there is no US carrier there right now, and it is a small country wholly dependent on Europe playing ball.

I think this escalation of Israel’s continuity put into question is one of the only things that could get Trump impeached, because US reps are Israel supporters before Trump supporters.

  11. It’s been a bit since Epstein was on top of the headlines…so mission accomplished I guess??

  12. Honestly… can we please just start accepting that this downward spiral is what Trump is shooting for?

It’s frustrating how predictable all of this is.

  13. ThatchedRoofCottage on

We need to end trump now. We need a national protest movement yesterday. Why the fuck aren’t more of us out in the streets?!

  14. I’d say the downward spiral is already well underway

Which is the likely outcome of electing a senile narcissistic nazi sex-offender as president.

He’s obviously going to start behaving like a senile narcissistic nazi sex-offending king…. or Emperor… the closest Roman one being Tiberius – a degenerate old sadist who didn’t really want to be emperor and spent most of his time at is seaside resort, molesting children. He raised Caligula.

America is IN the NATO, protected together by all its allies! What is Trump talking about needing Greenland for National Security? He wants their resources, that’s what.

  16. Just do it. Do what Canada did and make a deal with China. Trade and ASML machines in exchange for a complete cutoff of Russia.

  17. MundanePresence on

He’s just trying to normalise invading countries, so no one can say nothing about putin crimes, or china invading Taiwan, as it is the normality.

You americans are clowns, I loose everyday a bit more respect for your country, which I have been growing up culturally speaking since my youth. The treatment you give us europeans is devastating; while our soldiers gave their lives on your article 5 requisite a few years back, the dishonour is real

  18. Powerful_Bridge_3814 on

We need to destroy America’s economy. We need to make their markets fail. We need to show them they aren’t immune.

  19. God I hate my awful president and the useless GOP congressmen who stand for nothing and let this toddler manchild do whatever he wants because they’re afraid of opposing him

  20. Usernamechecksout978 on

If I were some undercover spy from another country whose sole purpose was to hasten the downfall of the US and ruin its relationship with its allies, this is exactly what I’d do.

  21. So all of the US-EU recent trade agreement was a BIG waste of time because one “bet” leads to another “bigger one” in this crazy man’s attempt at unlawfully appropriating land.

  22. whycantwebefriends_ on

I have a good faith question.

    – The EU won’t budge on Greenland via tariffs
    – Despite rhetoric, Trump CAN’T invade Greenland. It’ll be political suicide.

Is he just going to go for “further-sronger” concessions or whatever buzzword on Arctic security and use that as an off-ramp?

To me that seems the most likely scenario considering the fact that even if he “gets Greenland” the dems won’t go for it when they win the midterms.

It seems that all this did was insult allies and ensure that they pivot more to internal defence spending/consensus.

I’m not a yank so please feel free to correct me.

  23. Vegetable_Bit_5157 on

The US and EU negotiated a contract about tarriffs just last year, with the EU making quite a few concessions.

The takewaway of this current threat is hopefully that

    1) it made clear to everyone that any agreement with the US is not worth the paper it is written on. The US under the current administration cannot be trusted anymore, for anything.

    2) the terrible agreement from last year is null and void after the US broke their side of it. Some were saying back then that the concessions are so wide because no-one believed this agreement would last – I guess they were right.

  24. Out of curiosity. Are Americans scared? Scared of losing the status quo just keeping your head down? Afraid that if you say how you feel you will be ostracized or lose your job? At present the entire world thinks you are cowards. The tipping point is moments away. There were generations of Americans that had honor, respect and decency and won with pride. A person is leading you to an ultimate end. A leach, a gambler a liar and someone that would hurt your child and lie about it.

  25. For fucks sake, stop falling for his blackmail attempts, didn’t work in the past to appease him. He just felt to demand more and more.

“**US official says EU should consider separating Greenland tariff issue from US trade deal**”

DETROIT, Jan 17 (Reuters) – U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said on Saturday it is up to Europe to decide whether it wants to raise new tariff threats from President Donald Trump against some European countries over Greenland.
“If I were the Europeans I would probably try to silo this off if they can. If they want to make it an issue in the trade deal that’s really up to them and not us,” Greer told reporters at the Detroit Auto Show.
