A major hotel operator with properties in Austria has filed for insolvency proceedings covering around 140 companies. The group says hotels will continue operating for now.

A major hotel operator with properties in Austria has filed for bankruptcy proceedings covering around 140 of its companies, with more than 100 establishments affected. The Revo Hospitality Group said all hotels would continue operating, but it has not yet specified which Austrian sites are included, according to Kleine Zeitung.

The filing was made at the Charlottenburg district court in Germany and covers roughly 140 group companies, including 125 hotels employing around 5,500 people in Germany and Austria.

What has the company said about staff and hotel operations?

Revo said the affected hotels were intended to keep running. “All properties are to continue operating,” Kleine Zeitung reported, although details on the Austrian houses involved were initially not disclosed.

The company also said it had applied to Germany’s employment agency (Agentur für Arbeit) for advance financing of wage payments for January to March 2026.

The group runs hotels under its own brands and as a franchise partner of major hotel chains.

Why did the group file for insolvency?

A central reason given for the insolvency filing was the rapid expansion of recent years. Since 2020, the number of hotels in the group has reportedly increased from 51 to around 250.

The company said acquiring new hotels involved significant costs. At the same time, it said overnight stays did not rise as expected, and planned revenue for 2025 was not achieved.

The new management team is now looking for international investors.

Which hotels in Austria are part of the group?

Revo’s portfolio includes hotels in Austria, including two in Graz, the Amedia Express Graz Airport (Trademark Collection by Wyndham) and the Amedia Luxury Suites.

However, it’s unclear which specific Austrian properties were part of the insolvency filings and therefore directly affected, even though the company said operations would continue.

The group includes franchise partnerships with hotel chains such as Wyndham Hotel & Resorts, Accor and IHG, and also runs its own hotel brands including Vagabond Club, Hyperion and Aedenlife, according to the report.
