Croatia delivered another commanding performance at the 2026 Men’s European Water Polo Championship, defeating Turkey 22–9 on Monday in a dominant Main Round group-stage encounter played at the Belgrade Arena.
The Barakude controlled the match from the opening sprint, leaving no room for surprise as they confirmed their status as clear favourites.
With this convincing victory, Croatia remain firmly on course for the knockout phase and now turn their focus to a decisive showdown against Italy.
Croatia asserted their authority early, racing to a 6–1 lead in the opening quarter and maintaining complete control throughout the contest. By half-time, the advantage was already insurmountable (11-3), with Ivica Tucak’s side showcasing discipline, intensity and attacking depth.

This victory fulfilled Croatia’s immediate objective in the group, but the tournament now reaches a crucial stage. Earlier in the day, Greece defeated Italy, securing first place in the group and clarifying the qualification picture.
For Croatia, the equation is now simple: a win against Italy guarantees a place in the semi-finals. Even a victory decided by penalty shoot-out would be sufficient to progress.

The decisive match against Italy will be played on 21 January at 18:00, with everything on the line.
