A cold snap expected to be this year’s longest has begun under sunny skies.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, morning lows on Tuesday fell to around minus 20 degrees Celsius and icy cold conditions have continued during the day.
Morning lows on Wednesday are expected to range between minus 17 and minus four degrees, before daytime highs rise to between minus seven and plus three degrees.
Strong winds are likely to make it feel much colder, and the cold snap is forecast to persist through the week.
Areas along the west coast, inland regions of the southwestern Jeolla region, Jeju Island at the southernmost end of the peninsula, and Ulleung Island in the East Sea are expected to see snow accumulate Wednesday and Thursday.
