Got fired due to economic reasons end of November 2025, started looking for a job right away (notice period 3 months) and luckily found a job after 1.5 months. Eastern Switzerland, I am in my thirties.

But, new job is not in my previous field of electrical engineering, but in Health, Safety and Environment (ASGS) where I have some previous education and will try build up on it.

  1. That’s pretty good IMO. So far I made 30 applications and only got an answer for 10 of them. No interview so far.

  2. MonsieurLartiste on

Seems like a pretty good hit rate.

Freelancing in film in London around 2008, the hit rate was about 3%. 97% of applications would not get an answer.

    It’s partly a numbers game.

  3. To all the people currently looking for a job (and I am aware that I was quite lucky only having to write 26 applications):

Stay persistent, look for joby outside of your field, apply for jobs where you don’t fit 100% of the requirements. For both jobs I got offers, I did not fit 100% of the requirements but I was able to convey the benefits I could bring the company and also that I am open to learn the missing skills.

All the applications where I fit >95% of the requirements got declined for either “found a better person” (which probably means a cheaper one) or that I am “overqualified” which was strange to me since I literally fit the description.

I wish all the people jobhunting good luck and all the best for finding your dream job soon.

  4. How much experience do you have? I have written over 100 applications since march 2025 and i got nothing. I have a bachelor degree, am a native swiss person and white (yeah we all know it should not matter, but it still does). If i try for jobs that are not a 100% fit i will get the response “nicht all anforderungen erfüllt” and if i do i get “jemanden der besser in das wunschrprofil passt”.

How. How did u do that. How do you write your applications? How do you look for jobs? TELL ME YOUR SECRETS

  5. I was jobless for over a year. Send between 5-10 each month in the IT branch and got rejected from all of them exept two. One i withdraw one i acceptet. Interviews from over 100 applications are only got 15. Now i am in IT support as a developer

  6. Congrats, 1.5m is record. I hope this means you enjoyed one month vacation being fully paid by the previous employer!

  7. You got a job after 1.5 months with only 26 applications? These are rookie numbers, you gotta pump those numbers up [insert wolf of wallstreet meme here].

And I mean by that, the numbers itself are unusually low. You did pretty well. Congrats.

  8. Since you said you found a job in a sector quite different from the one you were previously working in, how did you structure your proposal in those cases? I imagine you emphasized your earlier experience more than your experience from the most recent years. Is that correct?

  9. Based on what usually gets posted about those that’s amazing, congrats.

I landed my current gig after only 3 applications, and that was 15 years ago, whenever I saw people sending hundreds and still not getting hired, I always wondered what would happen in my case if I ever decided to actively look for a new position.
