Former South Korean Prime Minister Han Duck-soo was sentenced to 23 years in prison on Wednesday for his role in an insurrection, in which he allegedly aided former President Yoon Suk Yeol’s brief declaration of martial law.
The Seoul Central District Court issued the sentence in the first ruling to confirm that the martial law declaration on December 3, 2024, amounted to an insurrection, News.Az reports, citing Yonhap.
Special counsel Cho Eun-suk’s team had sought a 15-year prison term for Han, charging him with abetting the ringleader of an insurrection, playing a central role in the uprising, and committing perjury.
