The Swiss Drone and Robotics Centre (SDRC) has been working with Swiss unmanned aircraft system (UAS) manufacturer Skysec on developing the non-kinetic Sentinel Catch interceptor that fires a net as its payload, a representative of the SDRC told Janes on 21 January at the International Armoured Vehicles (IAV) 2026 conference in Farnborough, United Kingdom.
The SDRC, a part of Armasuisse, the Swiss Federal Office for Defence Procurement, has been working to further develop the interceptor with Skysec since around 2021. “We are keen to put it out there as soon as possible and let it develop in the field in a controlled manner,” the representative said, without providing a timeline for project completion.
One of the interceptor’s key aspects, they added, is the lower potential for collateral damage. When asked about the interceptor being used as a counter-UAS (C-UAS) around airports, the representative said that it is a possibility, adding that the organisation will be presenting the various use cases of the interceptor to the Swiss Armed Forces. “They will decide what use cases they want to match with which solution.”
In September 2025, NATO issued a warning to Russia over its airspace violations over eastern members. The September airport incursions by unknown UASs across a number of European countries including Denmark were called a serious attack by Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.
“The interceptor has control panels, flies very quickly, and carries a payload. That payload can be modular depending on what you want. The one that’s exciting is the net payload because a drone can be caught and then [the Sentinel can be] reloaded again.”
