    🫶🇺🇦 Ukrainian polar researchers form a chain of unity at Akademik Vernadsky Station


    To mark Ukraine’s Unity Day, Ukrainian polar researchers formed a human chain near the Akademik Vernadsky Research Station.

    “They joined hands to once again remind the world that our strength lies in unity,” the National Antarctic Scientific Center said.

      My grand uncle spent two ‘overwinters’ in Antarctica, in early1900s; so as a small boy I listened to his stories. Especially the mental problems of the long night. I applaud your efforts.

      My favourite story about this station is that the British sold it to Ukraine for one pound after negotiations with kravchuk after the fall of the soviet union.

      A lot of other station crews visit it on the way to their own stations because it’s got a working bar which is the most southerly bar on the planet.
