wo international fugitives wanted by authorities in Romania and the United States for two separate murder cases have been arrested by the National Police in the popular tourist island of Bali over the past week.
Bali police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Ariasandy said the first suspect, 33-year-old Romanian national Zuleam Costinel Cosmin, was arrested in the tourist hub of Kerobokan on Jan. 15.
“The arrest followed a tip-off from several Interpol national central bureaus (NCB), including those in Romania, Uzbekistan and Belgium,” Ariasandy told The Jakarta Post on Tuesday.
Ariasandy said Indonesia’s National Police International Relations Division, Interpol’s NCB in Indonesia, the Bali Police and Denpasar Police had worked together to track and detain Cosmin.
He said the arrest underscored Indonesia’s strong commitment to international law enforcement cooperation.
“This arrest reflects close coordination and cooperation among international police forces. Bali Police stand ready to assist in detecting and securing foreign criminals entering Indonesia, particularly Bali,” Ariasandy said.
Police said Cosmin was the prime suspect in a fatal robbery in his home country.
