Don’t even need to talk about the second comment, but why is that first one thinking he was exclusively speaking about Switzerland at the WEF, and how does such a comment have 49k hearts?
Trump was talking to audience from all over the world in Davos. The participants of the World Economic Forum were not exclusively Swiss, you know.
Moreover, I would say that a large part of Switzerland speaks Alemannic dialect as their native language. This dialect is spoken in Southwest Germany and Alsace too, but has been largely displaced by Hochdeutsch and French. All the foreigners who moved to Basel or Zürich, or worse, a part of Valais that speaks Walser, know the struggle of having learned Hochdeutsch but then still being excluded because they don’t understand what the Swiss are saying to each other. Had Nazi Germany won the war and occupied the entire Switzerland, the dialect would likely have been displaced by Hochdeutsch just like how Low German is being displaced by Hochdeutsch in North Germany.
