Of this amount, the EU executive explains in a statement, €828.8 million are grants and €286 million are loans under the Recovery and Resilience Facility, the centrepiece of NextGenerationEU.
The Commission considered that Portugal had satisfactorily met the 20 milestones and 14 targets set under the PRR.
Among the measures included for the disbursement of the 8th payment were the installation of battery storage capacity in Madeira to boost renewable energy, and the digitisation of the Azores health service, ensuring access to care through the “mySaúde Açores” app.
Brussels considers that the approved disbursement of the PRR “is an important step in implementing the reforms and investments associated with this payment request, in areas such as digitisation in health, education, renewable energy, budget management and decarbonisation of industry, among others. The measures also aim to modernise public finance management, improve fiscal efficiency, optimise the performance of the justice system and monitor energy poverty.
