you’re crying about them doing scheduled maintenance? Something that is required for everything to make sure they run at their best.

I understand trackwork, the lack of organisation however… The T1 running at a 15 minutes frequency crowded to the bream is a joke. At least have weekday frequency.
How does Tokyo manage to run without disruptive trackwork every weekend?

Would you prefer they didn’t perform maintenance and let it rot?
Long weekends are a rare opportunity for them to have multiple continuous days to close parts of the network and undertake work that can’t be done in any other reasonable way

Best time to do it. 3 days of reduced travellers means an extra 24 hour window to get work done.
Only real issue is the consistent closing of the circle+throughfare over the bridge and Metro at the same time. That I’ll agree could’ve scheduled around.

Unfortunately for the weekend traveller, it is by far the best time to disrupt the network.
The daily average users of the train network is almost double on a weekday than is on a weekend (~500k on a weekend vs just shy of a million on a weekday) and a long weekend gives them an extra day to perform the work.

Fair go! They have only had 26 days notice this year to get ready. The start of the year it was Calendar Nullius.

I don’t bother with it end of year or long weekends
Actually, T1 Richmond line is out more often than not on weekends..

I get they need to do maintenance, but closing City Circle trains *and* the Metro on the same day just seems like a dick move.

I live on the NW metro. We had to put up with years of construction already. Now because of the bankstown extension its closed every weekend again. But the bankstown extension is of no use to the Hills, why should we have to suffer all over again? Test the damn train at night.

Yeah, we are getting absolutely slammed on the Light Rail today because of it.

Metro being out (which it was last weekend and most of feb / march) whilst St. Leonards being out has meant spending twice as long and taking four buses to get across to Auburn on a hot day.
Only for Amart to not actually be able to process a refund in store, that they told me by email had to happen, even though I’d bought it online, and the guy in store had no idea why and it needs to be done with the online team = \
Fuck you very much Amart – four months (and counting) to not process a return and refund for an item delivered faulty, I get shit happens and not everything will be right, but it shouldn’t take four months of me not being able to use my living room to sort out a basic return? Fuck you fucking fucks. I’d’ve taken a replacement if they hadn’t take six weeks to send a guy to evaluate it was faulty before they’d do anything else (as apparently photos and videos aren’t enough to trust someone when they say something’s faulty) – and that only seemed to happen as I included the NSW Fair Trading lodgement ID in the emails…
Then an hour to get back to the city on the Clyde train, to spend another hour taking two busses to get back to Crowie – because the direct bus doesn’t exist anymore? (least it wasn’t coming up on gmaps).
Four hours out in public on the day my autistic ass needs to be indoors to recover from pretending to be a functional human being all week… so fuck whoever schedules the Metro and T1 North Shore to be down at the same time and not seemingly offering a replacement bus (least nothing I saw sign posted at Central), but, fuck Amart more for making me take a trip that didn’t do anything to resolve anything because they’re beyond useless…

The Australia Day weekend, where the media seeks to tear the community apart annually, seems to be the best time for whining poor bugger me complaints like this.

Whats insane is I caught the train to school for a good 12 years & can only remember about twice when i had to call parents for a lift because it glitched. Twice in 12 years.
How can it be so bad all the time now? Is trackwork more frequent? I remember it was about every 10-12 weeks on each line, now it seems to be every 5?
Has a policy changed where they can just cancel services willy-nilly? I remember it was such a crazy thing when they cancelled services, now it seems to be all the time?
What happened? Is it underfunded, did privatisation do something to it, is population increase the issue? Whats actually the issue now (compared to the 00’s)

Two full weekends with the Metro completely shut. I get they’re doing testing, but that could be done overnight. No major city would accept a metro being closed for **four weekend days**. Sydney is seriously behind.

It’s a serious question. How do other major cities manage their trackwork? Do they also close entire weekends?

Much of it was to do with repairing the damage the heavy rains did to the system a few days ago.
Perhaps if the Weather Dept. could schedule the rain for more convenient times…

I’m so torn about this. On one hand I love the fact that Sydney isn’t trying to hide the fact that the only thing that matters in terms of transport is being able to get people to work. It suits my toxic prerogative that Sydney is just a place to work and shouldn’t be used for anything more.
On the other hand, I just changed my working schedule so that I’m never on the road during peak hours and so now I’m being punished by that same notion. The other night I was working further away from home than usual and 3 freeways that I needed to use to get home were closed. One of them was the main gore hill fwy. Also the tunnel is closed every night at the moment with no warnings about what on and off ramps are open or shut.
I’m kinda getting hoist by my own petard.

Just imagine the shock of poor T4 travellers when the train gets packed between Redfern and Town Hall.
