      They did it so they could compare it with voter rolls and challenge blue votes in the Midterms. They’ve already compared it with the voter rolls (that just came out) and the voter suppression is next. Just watch.

      When this kind of data breach hits a private company, they have to notify everyone in writing with a formal apology and pay for a year of credit monitoring.

      What is the SSA going to do about this?

      Find out what feds let that happen and try them. I’m not fighting for a side. Someone let them break the law. Someone didn’t protect the rule of law. Put every tech nerd that handed over unearned credentials behind bars. Every nearly retired boomer that let it happen but should have known better. And because this is reddit, get the DOGE guys first with the most penalties, but also go against the feds who let it happen so that other feds see what happens when you’re just letting things happen.

      I remember the whistleblower being a) fired and b) de-legitimized by right-wing media that preferred to give benefit of the doubt to what was obviously illegal behavior. Straight up criminals with unheard of / forced-at-gunpoint access to systems they never were cleared to touch, let alone clone or connect to external networks.

      There’s race/ethnicity data on most people’s social security records.  Also, citizenship data. And there is a record every change made to the record (name, citizenship, gender, birthplace, DOB, parents names, etc. It could be used to surgically target people for multiple reasons. Voting, arrests, segregation, you name it.

      Never give your race/ethnicity. Say white or just say that you prefer not to say.

      So use the voter data that some states turned over willingly to cross reference with SSN and submit ballots from people who are registered but don’t vote?
