    1. If Europe won’t even collectively boycott Eurovision, what makes you think they will boycott this? This is just hollow threats and posturing, nothing more. Nothing will come of this.

    2. US here – if one country’s organization boycotted, and the event was held without them, what would that do to the groups? What are their chances of getting cash from FIFA after that?

    3. Ok i can see why some people might be in favor of this but do remember we all watched the world cup when it was hosted in qatar and russia.

I don’t think there will be a boycott. Pretty sure they held a World Cup in Argentina during a military dictatorship.

    5. Internal_Sun_9632 on

With the price of the tickets, it might look like a boycott when half the games are empty stadiums.

    6. AdOriginal1084 on

I already know lots of people who have bought tickets accommodation etc going to away international games in football is normally amazing i hope if this does happen they get reimbursed by the respective FA’s fucking 800 pound a ticket and the accommodation is even more mental

This guys from St Pauli Hamburg and is super political. He is the president of St Pauli where Che Guevara is like their unofficial mascot. They’re known for hanging banners like “no one is illegal.” Very progressive for what it’s worth not everyone is going to go along with this far left stance.

    8. Haha, just lip service. Same way you boycotted the World Cup in Qatar, after using slave labor. At least you will be able to find beer.. Also, its the Americas, so not just the USA.

    9. Shoddy_Squash_1201 on

When was the last World Cup there wasn’t a call for boycott?
It doesn’t really seem to be hurting them.

At least I haven’t hurt anything about it in the past, but I also don’t really care about football.

The European teams should all boycott this fascist fest and the unbelievably corrupt FIFA, but they’re not going to. This will be my third world cup where I will not watch. I hope they all lose.

    11. Special-Audience-426 on

Get the South Americans in on the boycott and everyone will follow.

We can have a replacement tournament elsewhere.

    12. Please do. Trump will be insulted, and 99% of Americans won’t care because we don’t follow soccer.

    13. AccountDramatic6971 on

As a non European, when will the EU Crack down on FIFA? They’re blatantly corrupt and not to mention the verbal hand job the ceo gave to Trump

    14. DouglasQUAID88 on

Russia and Qatar got selected in the most obvious corrupt selection process ever in FIFA, but now people draw the line?? Yea, fuck off, I’ll watch it.

    15. OptimizationBot on

Do it. Please. We need this man out of the White House and unless rich folks start to lose a lot of money nothing will happen.

    16. The message would be great and way more important today than the event itself. It’d be nice to see only half a dozen of countries aligned with trump participating and making a fool of themselves.

    17. Either we boycott it now or after it started and tons of fans get sent to their concentration camps by ICE just because they aren’t white, have an accent or don’t speak English.

Because that’s what will happen, 100%.

    18. Yes, please. You cannot one day threaten us, and then the next day act as if nothing happened. Some strong signal needs to come now.

    19. There should be a boycott, but it should not be official.

Just let the visitor rates plummet and make the whole ordeal more unprofitable without any statements. That would be an obvious message, and also avoid losing face if it does not happen. Cultural distancing and soft politics should be the responsibility of the public, while officials should focus on more hard politics, like digital sovereignty and reactive trade countermeasures

I strongly support the boycott, despite being a fan of Cristiano Ronaldo and our entire national team . That’s how it is in life; sometimes you have to make decisions through pain. (He will say to his friend Donald: “Sorry, buddy, it just happened that way..”

Things went from bad to worse when Platini was suspiciously denied FIFA presidency and Infantino given the job instead.

    22. All of this is a good idea.

      – boycott FIFA? Great. I’m all for it.
      – boycott the USA? Great. I’m all for it.

It sucks for Canada and Mexico, but I’m sure they also understand the situation very well.

    23. In Qatar no other participant considered a boycott and Germany ended up just doing a symbolic protest, got memed on social media.

I guess we collectively woke up, by now? We have seen major sports events going to China, Russia, Qatar, and now Trump USA in the last two decades…they all deserved some boycots by democracies IMHO

      Better late, than never.

Albeit there are levels to this. Russia conducts terrorist attacks and murders on our soil, the US threatens us with war. Qatar and China did not.

    24. Speaking as an American, please do this. Don’t reward our decline into fascism.

But also aware that FIFA are a buncha ass-kissing enablers, so doubt this will happen.

    25. suicidemachine on

I’m all in. If my country Poland doesn’t qualify, at least we will have an argument why it was a good choice not to quality without offending the Americans /s

    26. But German FA was ok going to a World Cup hosted by a country that criminalizes gay people? I’m never watching a worldcup match.

    27. Is it too late to just drop FIFA and USA and have another tournament without USA? Without USA.

    28. I was excited to see a world cup since it’s hosted here. But with all the stuff this dumbass is doing I don’t want it happening here, it should be something fun that brings the world together and it doesn’t deserve to be hosted here.
