SYDNEY, Jan 25 (Reuters) – Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney will visit Australia in March, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said on Sunday, as he backed a speech by his Canadian counterpart decrying powerful nations using economic integration as weapons and tariffs as leverage.
“My friend Mark Carney will visit Australia with an address to the parliament in March,” Albanese said in remarks on Australian Broadcasting Corp television.
Albanese said he concurred with Carney’s well-received Davos address that called on nations to accept the end of a rules-based global order and pointed to Canada as an example of how “middle powers” might act together to avoid being victimised by American hegemony.
“I agree with him,” Albanese said, referring to the speech that drew criticism from U.S. President Donald Trump.
Carney’s visit to Australia will come after the two allies in October deepened their relationship, signing an agreement to promote and strengthen cooperation and trade on critical minerals.

If there was ever a PM AND circumstances to push for CANZUK to happen, we are living in them. If Carney pulls it off, we might have to rename YOW airport 👀

This could be great. Wish it was sooner, but this sort of thing can obviously be hard to control

With Carney out of the country so often, I wish we had a similar setup to countries like France and Germany.
A president to handle international relations and geopolitical interests, and a prime minister to handle domestic politics and issues.

I got some AUS beef last week (which I had never seen before). It was REALLY good and somehow cheaper than our own. Which is fucked up, but if I can get cheap beef from an actual ally, than I’m all for it. Groceries are insane right now.

Addressing Australian parliament is really cool for a Canadian PM. Hope more deals are sealed up on the trip.
