    1. Alas, idiots will be idiots. Last 45c day we had I saw a bunch of clowns walking their dogs in South Yarra. The lack of common sense is mind boggling.

Meanwhile my doggo is coming to work with me because I felt bad leaving him home in the heat. Other doggo is going to work with husband.

Grateful we both have flexible workplaces.

And to my fellow brachycephalic dog owners, remember the risk of our dogs overheating is far greater than non-brachy dogs so don’t bother with the “well the footpath isn’t that hot yet”. Keep them inside.

    4. I’ll be walking my dogs tomorrow thank you very much.

At 7am before it gets hot, because I’m not a psycho.

    5. I think its pretty safe to say you won’t need to test the asphalt with your hand tomorrow.

Really don’t think we need “don’t murder your pets/kids” as a psa. That said, I hate everyone walking their dog in 30 degree+ temps.

    7. I made a solar oven with my kid today. We got a pot of water up to 60°C in it this afternoon. We’re planning to try to actually boil an egg outside tomorrow.

And solar ovens work like cars do. Sunlight comes in and heats the inside, radiant heat is trapped by the glass. If it can boil an egg, it can boil a child.

Mine are being confined to the house and air con, with access to the verandah dog potty only. They will whine about it, but better that than burnt paws or heatstroke.

I walked from my car to the beach about 200 meters bare foot last year when it was a similar temperature.

Burnt the absolute shit out of my feet I couldn’t walk properly for a week.

Its no joke, If you walk your dog tomorrow you’re scumbag

    10. Thank you.

And to anyone who owns rabbits and guinea pigs please keep them inside. I don’t care how shaded the area is, I have watched rabbits who have been outside for under only 30 minutes die of heat stroke in front of me (vet nurse). Do not put them at risk. Please be mindful as well during the summer of our elderly piggies and buns and flystrike. Flystrike doesn’t just target sheep. They also love our elderly rabbits and guinea pigs housed outdoors who struggle to keep themselves clean. Please bring them in and help them clean themselves. Thank you 🙂

    11. For those who read things literally, this would also apply to surfaces including: concrete, tile, brick, metal, sand. Other surfaces exposed to direct sunlight will also be hotter than usual and should also be checked before use.

If your pet does get burns on its paws, the best place for advice is a vet.

    12. Saturday I thought to myself “I can pop out to the mailbox, it’s like 3m in the sun, how bad can it be, I don’t need to get my shoes.”

      They still hurt non-stop. FML.

(I have enough medical training to know that I don’t need medical care. I just have to wait for them to get better. But seriously, FML.)

Another good rule. If socks alone aren’t enough to protect your feet it isn’t enough to protect theirs.

Get real protection for your dog. Get something that has a sole.

    14. My dog likes to go and lay on the hot pavers on 30 degree days. I try standing on them barefoot and can’t last more than a few seconds but he’ll lay there for like 20 mins no problem.

I never walk my dog when ambient temp is more than 24. Tomorrow he’ll be sitting with me in the a/c home office.

Whenever there is a hot day these things flood social media. It isn’t accurate.

    17. Good reminder. Off topic but with only Liberia and the USA using Fahrenheit exclusively then isn’t celsius enough in the graphic?

As I have to go into the office tomorrow. Blinds closed. Frozen ice brick in water and aircon on low. I can turn mine on and off from anywhere which helps

    19. PSA – If you see anyone walking their dog in the heat tomorrow, it’s absolutely acceptable to public shame them.
