    1. RNA is kind of the perfect spot for a village IMO, albeit space constrained.

There’s plenty of event space within the existing RNA facilities which can host supporting facilities, catering etc for the games, and prime space for high density living with the new CRR and train station.

It’s also in dire need for improvements that space, some of the old RNA sheds and facilities need investments, as to do the surrounding roads and pedestrian/bike paths along places like O’Connel Terrace.

Edit: those claiming the Ekka will be cancelled for 5 years are fear-mongering, the primary development will take place at the Brooke St end which is heavily under-utilised during the Ekka because the facilities are dilapidated/un-safe. Sideshow Alley/Gregory Tce/King St hosts the bulk of the Ekka facilities/events.

    2. Avoid negative reviews? We’re going to get negative reviews for sure especially if we don’t drop the airport train prices.

May as well lean in to them #brisbanetheshitcity

At the Paris Olympics, athletes hated the Olympic Village. Whoever could afford it moved into hotels instead. Seems to me like the concept of an Olympic Village is outdated.

    4. Step 1: Don’t re-elect Mayor Fuckwit Schrinner, whose miniscule brain can’t comprehend the idea of public transportation infrastructure and city planning.

      Step 2: See step 1.

Don’t build, make a deal with hotels near each stadiums instead. The other hotels that miss out on the Olympians would be flooded with tourists, so I’m sure they won’t mind.

Los Angeles 2028 will be during a US presidential election year. So we should be all good for avoiding negative reviews in that regard.

Brisbane itself though? I don’t think there is much that can be done. We are hosting in the northern hemisphere Summer, and not the southern hemisphere Spring like Sydney did.

So we aren’t really going to be able to use our natural strengths to our advantage, which will only highlight the city’s flaws more tbh.

Brisbane is not exactly known for its efforts living up to international standards. It’s a town where Australia’s cultural insecurity is overcorrected by bureaucratic mitigation. Theres always a good idea behind the effort, but that good intent never survives the gauntlet of ‘please everybody, offend nobody, and let the developers do whatever they want’ committees.

The idea of an olympics in a city that had *that* embarrassing drone show at NYE, *that* laughable botanical gardens ‘light show’ a few years back, and multiple instances of 30 year old ideas stolen from other cities, stripped of appeal, and implemented as an example of Brisbane’s ‘culture’, doesn’t give me faith these Olympics will survive international scrutiny.

Brisbane’s too worried about the size of its own shadow to be competent at this level.

Downvote me all you want. You know it’s true.

We need an independent Olympic corruption commission before we start handing out building contracts

Build an Olympics village with a consideration for use afterwards as a well-designed and dignified refuge for people leaving domestic violence and other unfortunate life events. Close to the hospital and transport is perfect.

It seems like all Olympic villages suck though it often seems to be in terms of furnishings and rules more than anything else.

The furnishings seem to be more than of a a dorm room more than anything else.

With that being said it’s pretty clear that the Brisbane Olympic Village is designed to ultimately become a bit of a high end high density village after the olympics.

    11. The government does not care they k ow they will not win another term. So corrupt and crime through the roof.

Cookie cutter designed stadium. Nothing new and no future reuse. Waste of 💰 ney

    13. Nah, it’ll go off without a hitch.

Pretty easy to keep those hound-dog athletes happy – condoms and soft mattresses.

Won’t be that hot, so no issues there, and the athletes won’t be within a 100 miles of a queenslander, so no issues with the cold either.

That and a generally relaxed atmosphere will do the job nicely. Brisbane’s a great city, and this is a killer time for investment.
