With the increase in extreme weather conditions, our wildlife can really use the help. Plus you'll be rewarded with not being swooped during breeding season.

Even if you don’t have a birdbath, or can’t afford one, put out small plastic bowls of water. You don’t need too much water – they can actually drown. Metal/stainless steel bowls will get too hot, obviously.

  2. I love watching the ravens in the bird bath. They look so silly the way they climb all the way in and roll around. Always have to refill after they visit because they splash it all out!

  3. Mine has been hijacked by bees in the heat.  Up to 20 of them at once sometimes.  I’ve seen birds head towards the water and nope out when they see them there.

Bought one yesterday. The birds love it. You can use any container but make sure they are shallow and easy to climb out of.

I have a 2nd hand 1/2 clam (sandpit) with water, a rock in it and a small branch leaning on both side (insects etc). Had it out for a couple of years now and I get different wildlife using it. Very easy to hose out and put some extra water in.

I have 2 (one out front, one out back). I don’t think I got any birds in them. I did get a dove try and steal my rabbit’s food (rabbit is inside)

4 birdbaths, bought 2 from marketplace cheap plus various, sized dishes around the yard under trees and under bushes to accommodate whoever needs. Little birds, big birds, lizards.

Yeah we get Eastern Rosellas, magpies, noisy mynas, lorikeets, gallahs, the occasional currawong. Have two plus a bowl, and as usual they all fight over the one bird bath/ bowl lol.

  9. I got a large ceramic bowl from Kmart for my bird bath and placed a small rock in it so any insects or small creatures can climb out. I had a plastic one but the sun destroyed it.

  10. I have one – i even put frozen bottles of water in it on hot days, and not a single bird will use it. Jerks.

I want a bird bath but I’m scared it’ll get nasty! Are there any recommendations for easy care ones that won’t become disgusting

Is it helpful to throw a small handful of ice cubes in the water every hour or so when it’s as hot as it was today (46c)? Just wondering if I one day put out a bowl – I’m renting so that’s the best I can do for now.

  13. My partner and I went to the park today to give the birds water. Poor things were so hot and were so happy to have some water

Bird baths/bowls can be super $$$ so I ended up just getting a terracotta pottery bowl from Bunnings for $6 and it works just as well!!

And you don’t need to buy them new – I’ve bought secondhand ones cheap on marketplace

  16. Yes plenty going around on fb marketplace. Solar powered water pumps that keep it flowing are pretty cheap too.

I’ve recently put up the $6 bird seed bells from Woolies & got rainbow lorikeets rightaway in a metro area, also entertains my indoor cats 🥰

If using something deeper than a cm or two, please add a rock of ramp (stick) of some kind to bugs and birds can get out of stuck
