A fundraiser launched to support Calvin Brincat, a 32-year-old participant in the 2024 edition of HazZzard, has raised over €38,000 in just over a week, reflecting the strong support of the Maltese community.
Calvin, an event planner and delivery worker from Birkirkara, was diagnosed with pancreatic and liver cancer, a life-changing diagnosis that has turned his daily routine into a series of hospital visits and ongoing medical treatment.
The fundraiser, started by a close friend on 4fund.com, aimed to help cover medical expenses, daily living costs, and other unexpected needs. Its reach quickly expanded as well-known Maltese artists and influencers, including Eurovision singer Miriana Conte, shared Calvin’s story. Maltese media outlets also reported on the campaign, helping to raise further awareness.
For Calvin, the most difficult part of his journey has been seeing the impact on his family.
“The hardest part was seeing my mum crying and losing herself. My family gives me a lot of love, support and courage,” he says.
The outpouring of emotional support has been as significant as the financial contributions. Hundreds of messages, shares, and donations have reminded Calvin that he is not facing this battle alone.
“This fundraiser reminded me how lucky I am to be surrounded by such amazing people,” he reflects. “Every donation, message and share meant the world to me. Thank you for believing in me and supporting me through this journey.”
Due to the overwhelming response, the original fundraising target was increased from €50,000 to €70,000. In just over a week, 1,028 people came together to raise €38,596, helping Calvin focus on his treatment without the added burden of financial stress.
The fundraiser has now closed, but the support and solidarity shown by friends, artists, influencers, and the wider Maltese community remain a powerful reminder of the difference collective action can make.
