The leader of the Nationalist Party of Slovenia, Zmago Plemeniti, has warned that demographic changes, driven by the labor market, could “soon” lead to the election of Albanian mayors in some areas of Slovenia.

Plemenit has claimed that Albanians are “taking control” of many Slovenian cities, referring to the significant increase in the number of Albanian workers in some regions of the country, especially in the industrial and logistics sectors.

“Soon some Slovenian cities will have Albanian mayors,” the Slovenian MP wrote in a post on the “X” platform after several job advertisements in Albanian and Slovenian in cities like Celje – the third largest city in Slovenia.

But according to the Albanian Embassy in Ljubljana, around 10,000 Albanians live in Slovenia, mainly from Kosovo, North Macedonia and Montenegro.

A limited number of Albanians from Albania have settled in Slovenia since the 1990s.
