On Jan. 27, the day the House of Representatives election was announced, Kawasaki City sent out a message on social media raising awareness that hate speech is not tolerated even during election campaigns. The city's ordinance for non-discrimination and respect for human rights defines hate speech in public places as a crime, and makes it prohibited and punishable even during elections.

More cities should follow Kawasaki.
we need to start compiling a Fuck yeah! and a Fuck No! lost for these cities and prefectures
This is really positive news. I’m hoping that other city governments in Japan will make similar statements. Some places need it more than others… (look at you Saitama, Hyogo and Kyoto…)
Was there a specific incident that meant this had to be emphasised?
