I'm Somyung Kang, a 21-year-old Indian–Korean filmmaker currently serving my mandatory military service in South Korea. I recently released a short film called “Never Again”, and I’d love to share it with you.
The film explores a subject that is rarely — if ever — portrayed in Korean media: the reality of teenage single mothers. In a country known globally for K-pop, K-dramas, and glossy entertainment, the stories of young women navigating motherhood alone are often buried in silence and stigma.
Inspired by my experiences visiting a girls’ juvenile detention center in Korea (where my parents volunteered when I was young), the film tells a quiet, simple story of a young mother trying to survive — emotionally and economically — by selling handmade crafts at a flea market.
It’s not a flashy film, and the production was difficult — we lost footage, got kicked out of locations, and had to reshoot with friends and family. But we also received deeply moving feedback from people with real-life experience, including the Korean Unwed Mothers' Families Association (KUMFA), who said it felt heartbreakingly real.

Subbed,, you are really good at cinematography.
good job. getting anything made in the world of film is an achievement on its own. so much to navigate through to get a film made. i’ll check out. i wish more korean indie films were more accessible.
congrats on releasing your short film! the lead actress did a great job and really conveyed the character’s emotions well. also thank you for taking the time to bring attention to an often overlooked subject. the editing seemed fine to me and I actually like that it’s not too flashy, it seems more natural and realistic that way. good luck with the rest of your service and other projects moving forward.
