27 EU member states, including Hungary, have approved the allocation of 20 million euros in aid to Armenia from the European Peace Fund, APA reports, citing the Armenian service of Radio Liberty.
It was reported that, according to sources in Brussels, the decision was made today at a meeting of the EU Council.
It should be noted that although Armenia applied for assistance from the fund last year, Budapest blocked it. This is the second time that Armenia has received support from the European Peace Fund. The first time, 10 million were allocated to Armenia. This time, the amount has been doubled and the priority is to strengthen Armenia’s armed forces and defense capabilities, provide logistics and medical equipment, as well as necessary technical training.
The funds are intended for the next 35 months.
Noted that the European Peace Fund was established in 2021. It is reported that the fund was created to prevent conflicts around the world and provide non-lethal military assistance to countries in need.
