This is a matter for Italy, nothing to do with the treaties and even calling for action at European level breaks the principle of subsidiarity.

They have no reason to be here. The job they will be doing could also be done by other form of police, military, security etc that are already present in Italy and/or EU. This 100% does not need to be outsourced to ICE.

In the end it is Italy’s call of course. As far as I’m concerned they should be allowed in only if the following conditions are met:
a) no guns
b) no masks
c) clearly visible name tags
d) functioning bodycam worn at all times
e) supervised by one or more Italian officer(s) at all times

f) fluent in Italian – after all that’s the official language of the country they want to work in…

Isn’t using ICE instead of the Secret Service a massive security risk for JD Vance? The Secret Service has top trained agents. ICE are idiots with guns, most of them too stupid to pass police entry exams. He’s risking his life to make a provocative statement. Not that I personally care about his safety, but I’m surprised the Secret Service even allows it in the first place.

This “ICE at the Olympics” thing has been blown way out of proportion, due to the lack of clarity (for which I blame the US and Italian governments) and substantial misinformation that have surrounded the news from the very beginning.
ICE is made up of two separate entities: Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), aka the guys who go around Minneapolis executing people in broad daylight, and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), an investigative body that collaborates with hundreds of other countries’ law enforcement agencies, acting as the international arm of the Department of Homeland Security. It’s the latter who are going to play a role in the security of the US delegation at the Olympics, and they will not have any on-the-ground duties.
It’s worth stressing how HSI already has offices in Italy and in many other European countries. So, if you’re here protesting the supposed arrival of armed and masked ICE agents in Italy for the Olympics, please keep in mind two things: 1. You’ve been a victim of misinformation; 2. HSI most likely has an office in your country and has for years.
