The National Assembly has passed a special bill that stipulates support measures to strengthen the global competitiveness of the country’s semiconductor industry.

The bill passed in a plenary session Thursday, laying the institutional framework for broad government support for key players in the semiconductor ecosystem essential for future, high-tech industries, including artificial intelligence, data centers and robots.

It includes provisions for a special committee to be set up under the president to handle policies on supporting semiconductor industries, which previously have been dispersed based on projects and budgets.

Through the operation of the special committee, the government will also set up a ten-year-term special account to provide ongoing support for semiconductor and related industries.

The government plans to fully implement the bill as early as the third quarter of this year.
