January 30 – The Romanian Football Federation (FRF) is hosting an official delegation from the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) this week, marking a significant milestone in a strategic partnership aimed at helping revolutionise football in the Philippines.
The visit, which includes the PFF President, secretary general, and technical director, is part of the ‘Strategic Pathways’ project. Launched under the UEFA Together umbrella, this collaboration runs from September 2023 to July 2026. Its primary goal is to leverage the FRF’s expertise to develop a robust strategic management plan for Philippine football for the 2026–2030 period.
FRF President Răzvan Burleanu opened the first day by outlining the Romanian federation’s journey toward modernisation. The sessions highlighted how the FRF transformed into a transparent and commercially successful entity – a blueprint the PFF hopes to emulate as it strives to become Asia’s fastest-growing football nation.
“This partnership confirms the FRF’s role as a mentor in regions experiencing rapid football development,” said Burleanu. “We are honoured that our strategic model serves as the foundation for building the future of football in the Philippines.”
Over the two-day working session, the delegation is participating in intensive workshops focused on four pillars:
Strategic Design: Defining mission and values for long-term value creation.
Commercial & Marketing: Branding strategies to attract sponsors and fans.
Technical & Grassroots: Adapting the Romanian “Village Cup” model to the unique geography of the Philippine archipelago to increase rural access to the sport.
Women’s Football: Strategies to maintain momentum following the Philippines’ historic 2023 World Cup appearance.
The partnership extends beyond this week’s meetings in Bucharest. Experts from both federations are co-creating a customised educational programme to ensure the successful implementation of the 2026–2030 strategic plan. This educational package will cover governance, administration, and technical performance.
