Isn’t this the entire point of asylum? Temporary and returned when the thing that is putting people at risk has ended?
Otherwise it really is just economic migration by the back door. Really feels like they need to do this to maintain the legitimacy of the asylum system to me.

This title is misleading. Syrian refugees, about 20,000, have permanent protection, residency status and rights and aren’t being considered for deportation.
Some asylum seekers may be, particularly those whose refugee claims were previously refused or have not yet been processed. Legally these aren’t “refugees”.

Shame we were only doing voluntary deportations before.

“Britain mulls plan” is such a stupid headline. It’s the entire point of the Civil Service to mull over everything it can think of and present the results to their minister. At some point someone on the civil service has mulled over “what if the royal family really are space lizards”.
