  1. I think this is a huge overreaction, especially in big cities. Schools in Warsaw have had insulation for the longest time, most have windows replaced with good, double-glass ones that insulate well, and every room has heating. Children go to school either in a heated bus/tram/metro or are driven to by their parents in a heated car. Is -20 really that bad when you live in a city?

  2. Back in my days I went to school when it was -25. Good that they stopped forcing kids to do that.

  3. Schools in Poland dont close even if there will be -100C

There needs to be below 18C inside of a school to close it. The only schools i know that were closed was mine when during a renovation a team struck a heating pipe and for 2 days they tried to fix it. And my friends school who lived in middle of nowhere and they didnt remove snow in time. Either way closed for total of 3 day combined. So this title seems like clicbait.

  4. Stupid global warming! In my days it was -30C when schools close. I remember having a walk 2km in -27C.

  5. I remember a huge snowstorm and very cold weather (I don’t remember exactly temp). My mother told me to go to school, even though it was difficult to get around the blok. It took me much longer to get to school than usual, with the wind and snow blowing in my face. I got to school, and there was a sign saying the school was closed due to the weather. A few losers like me stayed in the świetlica while I went back home.

  6. I dont understand why?
-20C? It is not natural disaster. I would understend snowstorm or freezing rain, but it is only under -20C. 10-20 years ago I went to school and sometimes temperature was under -20C

As a Canadian, it’s surprising that schools would close, but I don’t know enough of the heating of schools and offices in Warsaw, Gdansk, and elsewhere in the northern part of the country. In any case, there is a town in western Canada with a northern climate, and they freeze the sidewalks so people can skate to school or work during wintertime. 8. This is fake news. Schools are not closing. One school was closed for a day due to reasons unrelated to temperature.

  9. In Canada🇨🇦where they have 6 months of winter

    they keep schools open.

    Regardless of the weather.

    Minus 40.

  10. When I was going to school over 20 years ago at -30°C, they had to set up electric heaters – towards central heating radiators so they didn’t blow up from frozen heating water. All day in a coat inside a school in Suwałki. My classmates that were commuting from villagrs nerby, had to push the bus whenever it fell off the road. Was kinda funny, but no one was learning anything, so I’m glad it’s not forced today.
