DECATUR – Low Carbon Infrastructure (LCI) issued the following statement after the City Council approved a water development agreement for Broadwing Energy, a low-carbon natural gas power plant that will generate tremendous economic investment across Macon County:

     “Today’s action by the City Council positions Decatur for a greener and more prosperous future. We thank council members for their support of Broadwing Energy, which will advance carbon reduction goals while also generating billions of dollars in economic investment across Macon County and the surrounding region,” said Jonathan Wiens, CEO of Low Carbon Infrastructure. “We look forward to continued partnership with the community as Decatur leads the nation in next-generation, low-carbon infrastructure.”

     During construction, Broadwing Energy will:

  • Directly create more than 650 construction jobs and roughly 100 engineers and construction management staff.
  • Support an additional 3,100 jobs throughout Macon County and surrounding areas.
  • Generate nearly $1 billion in labor income over the four-year construction period.

During operation, Broadwing Energy will:

  • Directly support around 30 full-time jobs with a salary range of $70,000-$145,000.
  • Support an additional 150 jobs annually throughout the region.
  • Generate nearly $870 million in labor income.
