**Former Victorian premier Daniel Andrews is in a “very bad way” after suffering a reported neurological episode, which has left him debilitated.**

Mr Andrews, 53, was admitted to hospital late last year and some sources have suggested that he is still suffering possible movement and speech issues, while others have said he is making a steady recovery.

The Herald Sun was told Mr Andrews’ condition has been improving under an intensive, ongoing rehab program after the terrifying episode.

Mr Andrews has kept a low profile since retiring in 2023, however his failure to publicly acknowledge the passing of former senior adviser Tim Picton last month sparked serious concern for his wellbeing.

Mr Andrews was admitted to hospital before Christmas, but details about why he was being treated were tightly controlled.

One senior source compared the information lockdown to the secrecy around Michael Schumacher’s condition after his ski accident.

It’s understood Mr Andrews was treated at Monash Hospital.

Mr Andrews abruptly resigned as Victorian Premier in September 2023 after steering Victoria through the Covid crisis and what became the world’s longest lockdown.

At the time he said he made the decision after having a serious discussion with his family.

Prior to his resignation the father-of-three was the nation’s highest-paid state leader.

He suggested that the role of premier had cost home time with his family.

Mr Andrews is married to Catherine and has three adult children, Noah, Joseph and Grace.

The former politician has previously spent months in rehab after a fall on holiday in 2021 on the Mornington Peninsula that crushed his back, broke ribs and caused respiratory failure.

He later said he feared he was “going to die” after slipping on steps at a Sorrento home, and was placed in intensive care on breathing machines to support collapsed lungs.

I hope he recovers. 56 is so young to be dealing with what sounds like a stroke, that’s really tough. I hope he and his family have a strong support network around them.

Get well Dan. There are a lot of people out here who still support you. Leadership looks easy until you are the leader and then you realise how awful it can be.

Sounds like a stroke. Hope he’s on the mend. 🙏

Gosh knows the mental toll News Corpse, Cookers and Liberal Party put him under.

  7. Certainly not a fan of his time in politics but I won’t wish ill of unwell people and hope he has a speedy recovery
