Content creator Grundy Wiley, aka BlessThaBelly, merges food reviews with music to spotlight Texas eateries, promoting community and creativity since 2016.

BEAUMONT, Texas — Houston-based content creator Grundy Wiley, known online as BlessThaBelly, has built a following of over 100,000 on Instagram by combining food reviews with original music and entertainment while promoting local restaurants across Texas and beyond.

Wiley, who appeared on 12News’ midday newscast to discuss his approach to food content creation, started his platform in 2016—before TikTok existed and before the current wave of food influencers emerged on social media he says. His strategy distinguishes him in a crowded field: creating custom jingles for restaurants and focusing on community support rather than just food reviews.

“I set myself apart by trying to be as entertaining as possible,” Wiley said during the interview. “We all like to eat and we all like to be entertained. So for me I said why not combine the two.”

The creator, who previously worked in radio, saw social media as an opportunity to reach beyond the approximately 6 million people in the Houston area. His original goal centered on helping local restaurants gain exposure through creative, engaging content.

“I’m big on community so I gathered community and the goal was actually to help out these restaurants, help our restaurants, let them get some more exposure but do it in a fun way,” Wiley explained.

With nearly 100,000 followers on TikTok in addition to his Instagram presence, Wiley travels extensively to feature diverse food experiences. He organizes his content thematically around holidays and seasons, such as Valentine’s Day date nights or spring break during rodeo season.

During his visit to the Golden Triangle area Wiley announced plans to visit John’s Seafood based on a recommendation. He also offered to provide free meals to local families, encouraging followers to direct message him on Instagram. The 4th and 9th people to contact him would receive the giveaway.

For aspiring content creators, Wiley emphasized authenticity and hard work as essential ingredients for success.

“Be yourself, put God first, but also work hard,” he advised. “You can’t do anything without working hard some nights that people don’t see I’m up late and I’m just my creative spin is going on.”

He encouraged young people to embrace emerging opportunities and be early adopters in their chosen fields, noting his own experience as one of the first Texas-based food content creators to gain significant traction nearly a decade ago.
