> A train conductor has died after being attacked during a routine ticket inspection on a train near the southwestern German city of Kaiserslautern, the Süddeutsche Zeitung broadsheet and other media reported on Wednesday.
> The victim, named as 36-year-old Serkan C.*, was reportedly assaulted by a ticketless passenger on Monday night and beaten up so badly that he died of his injuries 24 hours later.
> The alleged attacker, a 26-year-old man, was arrested at the scene and is being investigated on suspicion of manslaughter.
FYI: the attacker was a homeless Greek, doubt it plays any role, but oddly coincidental given the person he killed was a person of Turkish origin. And its sad how more and more trains are becoming unsafe, as violence against train personnel seems to be normalised..

>”The increasing violence against public service employees and other service providers, such as railway employees, must be met with decisive consequences,” Dobrindt said.
Credit to the minister, dude managed to give a reasonable, accurate statement and did not even mention himself or “innovation” once.
One thing:
> “We are distraught and stunned but, most of all, we’re angry,” said EVG boss Martin Burkert
Union guy’s criticism is quite reasonable, until…
> How many more orgies of violence must we endure before something finally changes?”
I can’t quite describe how that phrasing made me lose all respect for this person, it’s quite the odd effect.

Imagine the headlines if the guy who killed was of Turkish origin and the train personnel was of Greek origin.

What?! No one intervened to stop the beating?! Was it just one punch or stab? How can this happen in a train full of people. Surely other passengers should be expected to intervene here.

The man that was arrested for the sabotage of the military naval vessels was also Greek (he was a [Pomak](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pomaks) i.e. muslim with turkish roots and culture that was born in Greece). Throwing punches for a skipped fare does sound more greek-oriented than military sabotage, but I’m waiting for details.

Guys stop making it a race thing, we all know how dangerous public transit is and what kind of people you can encounter

I am very ashamed as a Greek for this. I hope he gets an exemplary punishment. But it is true that in Greece in recent decades it has been common for citizens not to pay a ticket on public transport, as well as to try not to pay taxes and consider that they are beating the system. It is a completely stupid behavior that is due to the dominance of the Greek left since 1981. This is starting to change after the bankruptcy but there is still a lot.

Was the train empty? Weren’t there passengers to intervene? I am sorry for that poor man.

There should be paywalls before you reach the train platform in Germany. It would also prevent people from hanging around the platform who shouldn’t be there.
In Germany you can board trains without a ticket. It’s a system calling for poor people gambling and riding without one to fine them afterwards, and it’s a criminal offense too so many people actually land in jail if they do it repeatedly and/or can’t pay the fine.
