Romania: Greenvolt Group, through its subsidiary Greenvolt Power, has secured $70 M (€58.5 M) in project financing to advance a 49.8 MW onshore wind project in Romania. The funding was arranged with Erste Group Bank AG and Banca Comercială Română (BCR) and will support the development of the Săcele wind farm in the Dobrogea region, in the south-east of the country.
Construction of the project is already in progress, with commissioning expected in the second quarter of 2026. Once operational, the wind farm will contribute new renewable generation capacity to Romania’s electricity system, supporting both energy security and decarbonisation goals.
João Manso Neto, CEO of Greenvolt Group, highlighted the strategic importance of the region, noting that Central and Eastern Europe, and Romania in particular, remain key markets for the company. He emphasised that projects like Săcele play a meaningful role in the energy transition while also strengthening national energy independence and stability.
From the financing partners’ perspective, Erste Group Bank and BCR underlined their commitment to expanding Romania’s renewable energy infrastructure. Both institutions pointed to Greenvolt’s strong track record and the solid fundamentals of the local renewables market as key factors behind the transaction.
The project further reinforces Greenvolt’s footprint in Central and Eastern Europe. In Romania, the group is developing a utility-scale pipeline that includes 555 MW of wind, 77 MW of solar, and 156 MW of battery energy storage, alongside distributed generation solutions delivered through Greenvolt Next.
