Need a good reason to get out of the house this Friday?

First Friday returns to Lancaster city this Friday, with several concerts, exhibition openings, events and more.

While Curio Gallery & Creative Supply isn’t hosting a formal exhibition for February, as owners Matt Allyn Chapman and Nicole Duquette prepare to move the gallery, attendees are welcome to stop by and draw on their walls. This installation, called “Free Space,” will be open until Curio moves from its Chestnut Street location to its new Prince Street location.

Here are 17 events, exhibition openings and concerts for February’s First Friday in Lancaster city.

Demuth Museum

The Demuth Museum will debut a new exhibition, called the “Demuth Student Salon,” featuring works of art from students participating in the Demuth School of Art’s program and other local schools. Works are inspired by the museum’s namesake, Charles Demuth. This exhibition will be on display through March 22.

Fescue Gallery

Fescue Gallery will continue to show works from artist Peter Mollenkof’s collection, “Other Worldly” for February’s First Friday. After February, the gallery will focus more on promoting artists online, and won’t host formal First Friday monthly celebrations, says Lina Seijo Herbert, one of the gallery’s owners, in an email with LNP | LancasterOnline.

First Reformed Church

The First Reformed Church will commemorate Black History Month with its program, “Celebrating Black Composers,” with Larry Hershey on the organ. The program will feature songs from composers such as Adolphus Hailstork and Carl Haywood, among others.

Freiman Stoltzfus Gallery

The Freiman Stoltzfus Gallery will show works inspired by art, music and florals, just in time for Valentine’s Day.

Friendship Heart Gallery + Market

The Friendship Heart Gallery + Market will continue to show works from its exhibition, “Make Your Mark!” which opened in January. All works of art were created by artists with intellectual disabilities or autism. This exhibition will be on display through Feb. 28.

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church will host a series called the “Trinity First Friday Lecture Series.” Tanya Kevorkian will talk about G.H.E (Henry) Muhlenberg, who lived from 1753-1815, who was a botanist, pastor, farmer and more. Attendees will be able to tour the sanctuary afterward.

Karen Anderer Fine Art

Karen Anderer Fine Art will open a new group show called “Structures and Shadows: an abstract dialogue with nature.” The show will be on display through March 7.

Lancaster Art Vault

The Lancaster Art Vault debuted three new exhibitions on Jan. 30, and visitors can see them for First Friday. All exhibitions close Saturday, Feb. 28.

— “Expressions of Strength: A Celebration of Black Art and Identity,” will feature nine visual artists and 13 poets, whose works coincide and interact with each other.

— “Grandma’s Walls,” curated by late historian Lenwood Sloan. Works come from talk show host Beverly Smith’s private collection of Black art.

— “Yes, And – A Very Fine Art Show by Soop!” which features mixed media works from local artist Soop, one of the resident artists at the Art Vault. It combine’s Soop’s experience as both an artist and as an improv actor.

Lancaster Science Factory

Every First Friday, the Lancaster Science Factory offers free admission and features over 70 interactive exhibits for kids and adults alike to enjoy.

The Parrot Gallery

The Parrot Gallery will continue to show works as part of Nancy Cridland Baum’s exhibition, “Nature Speaks: Can you hear her?,” which opened in January. This exhibition primarily features landscape works, done with observational painting. This exhibition will be on display through Feb. 30.

Pennsylvania College of Art & Design

The Pennsylvania College of Art & Design will continue to show works from a solo exhibition that opened Jan. 12, called “I want to be alive so badly,” by artist Khari Johnson-Ricks. The exhibition is described as featuring “intricate scenes of daily life, depicting moments of ritualized maintenance, communal care and Queer Fellowship,” according to an artist’s statement.

Red Raven Art Company

Red Raven Art Company will feature works from artists Dick Whitson and Scott Cantrell, both of whom are resident artists at the gallery and belong to the Echo Valley Art Group. They collaborated on an oil painting called “It’s All Greek,” which will be on display. (Read more about the work here).

Third Story Art

Third Story Art will continue to show its latest exhibition, which opened Jan. 15, called “Look Here,” featuring works by photographers Robert Forlini and Jenny Schulder. This exhibition will be on display through Feb. 28.

Tiny Town

Want to spend the night out for First Friday? Consider dropping your kids off at Tiny Town for a Kids Night Out, which will have food, snacks, drinks, games, crafts and playtime. Tiny Town recommends this event for children 3-10 years old.

Urban Arts House

Urban Arts House will show works from its resident artists, including Laura Alvis, Danielle Rose, Rachel Hoffman, Zach Shaffer and Cheyne Thomas. There will also be live music from Keith Van Zandt and homemade Tuscan kale minestrone to enjoy.

The Ware Center

The Ware Center will host a free performance from Korean folk-fusion band Sangjaru, which combines traditional Korean music with funky influences.

The Ware Center will also have two new art exhibitions on display. In the Owen Grand Salon, there will be an interactive storytelling exhibition called “Vietnamese Boat People,” that tells the stories of Vietnamese-Americans. In the Regitz Gallery, six local Asian-American artists will show works in an exhibition called “Passages.” Both exhibitions will be on display through Feb. 27.

Zoetropolis Cinema Stillhouse

Zoetropolis Cinema Stillhouse continues its First Friday Fright Night Series with the 2015 Polish horror movie, “The Lure,” about two mermaid sisters who meet a young man.
