Novartis pay 25 millions their CEO, the same guy who says the Swiss should pay more for our meds

  1. they had a net profit of 14 billion CHF last year. So these 25 million represent 0.17% of their profits btw.

it’s kind of the equivalent of someone having a successful small company that makes 1 million CHF profit and then paying himself 1700 CHF bonus from it

  2. Always find this discussion a bit pointless.

That guy is an employee that at least has to show up in the office for his salary.

At the same time a lot of shares of such enterprises are often hold by the family/heirs of the founders.

For example the family behind roche gets more than 700 million in dividends per year.

For this they don’t even have to set the alarm clock to get up in the morining 😉

Or the three Blocher daughters who get more than 300 millions in dividends per year from EMS alone (they probably have other holdings as well).

Considering the relation between salaries (usually paid for actual work) and dividends (often paid to people who don’t have to lift a finger for it) it’s strange how the medial focus is mostly on the salaries.

Not saying that he’s necessarily worth his salary – but it’s a small problem in comparison to other things.

  3. This compensation aligns with international pharma benchmarks.

The broader question is whether those benchmarks still make sense socially.

If this was really capitalism I’m sure they could find someone equally qualified to take the job for 12m.only…

Why is this job not nearshored or offshored for maybe 500k?

The problem is that managerial class is in cahoots with the shareholder class.

Switzerland is slowly losing its technical expertise to offshoring. When we have no properly trained juniors, they’ll never become senior or lead engineers/scientists. But hey let’s not tax these managers but even give more corporate tax breaks rewarding this toxic behaviour!

You know who the usual suspects are – SVP and FDP!

  6. At least this year he had the decency of *not* announcing any massive lay offs the same week he got the bonus.

Sorry but that kind of salary should not exist, for what he will need 25 million a year for living?! …

Also SVP/FDP want to defund SRF/RTS so we won’t get these news anymore when the Blochers and Musks control the news media.

Their (it’s the BoD that sets CEO compensation) defense is something along the line that 60% of big pharma execs in the US make more than him. And this is what Novartis compares itself to.

It’s much less of a “Swiss” company than Roche (in terms of leadership behaviour). And for both companies, the revenue made in Switzerland is basically a rounding error.

Yeah and how many billions did the shareholders earn? Never understood the focus on CEO salaries.

  11. So? What does switzerland have to do with his salary? We are not paying if from taxpayers money?

His jet travel and lifestyle consume more resources and have a larger footprint than a whole town in Switzerland alone. Sick of guys like that.

  13. CEOs get hired to secure long-term shareholder value, not to provide a healthy work-environment and good price-value ratio
