Hoxhaj in Washington: The Balkans are in a security dilemma, Kosovo in NATO is the solution

From the US Congress, former Kosovo Foreign Minister Enver Hoxhaj has sent a clear and direct message: “The time for Kosovo’s membership in NATO is now.”
Recalling President Donald Trump’s decisive role in strengthening Euro-Atlantic security through supporting the membership of Montenegro and North Macedonia in NATO, Hoxhaj emphasized that 2026 should be the moment when Kosovo takes the decisive step, the signing of the Membership Action Plan (MAP).
“President Trump, during his first term, changed the security map of the region by supporting the membership of Montenegro and North Macedonia in NATO. And I believe that in 2026 it is time to support Kosovo to join NATO. But, to achieve this, the first step is the signing of the Membership Action Plan (MAP). Therefore, I am asking for your support to take this first step,” said Hoxhaj in his speech.
Hoxhaj warned that the Western Balkans is no longer an unresolved political issue, but a serious security dilemma, where uncertainty is systematic.
“The Western Balkans are no longer an unresolved issue of America and Europe. Today, the Western Balkans are an unresolved security dilemma. And there we do not face some marginal instability, but a systemic uncertainty,” said Hoxhaj.
“If Russia is challenging the borders in Eastern Europe, and Serbia is challenging the borders in the Western Balkans, I don’t think we can see predictability and stability in the future. Therefore, in my opinion, Kosovo’s membership in NATO means predictability, it means stability, it means security, and in my opinion, the time is now,” he stressed.
