Drivers who disobey basic road rules like Bus Only lanes or 40km School Zones… Are you taking the risk of a fine, just blatantly ignorant, or you just hate driving in general?

My favourite day when I was a bus driver in Melbourne was when the police set up a blitz on the bus lane on Hoddle Street.

Some people dont read the road sign and still drive 40 out of school times

I don’t see anything wrong with using the bus lane down Victoria Pde past Fitzroy and Collingwood especially if you’re turning left

My favourite is when people drive slower then 100 or 80 on the hwy but don’t slow down when going through towns.

Stop trying to figure out the logic of people who do illogical stuff
They don’t think about what they are doing they just do it

We won’t get any semblance of normality until there are a hell of a lot more visible police on the roads.

This will get downvoted, but back when I lived in Altona North I used the bus lanes at intersections in peak times because it more or less guaranteed getting through the intersection. Just gets you around all the people who want to sit in a queue.

The amount of people I watch get done by the new 40km/h school zone cameras on Ballarat Rd is insane, I say new but they’re almost a year old I think.
Kitchen_Towel on
I think it should be a standard that there should be a lit up “40km/hr” limit on ALL schools during the enforcement times, not just some of them. I agree anyone that knowingly speeds in a school zone needs to reevaluate their choices, but some school zones dont have LED Signs and can easily missed if you are not familiar with the area… Why are only some school-zones worthy of better signage?

Forgetting school holidays have ended.
Daylight saving distorting time perception.
Stressed and not as receptive to environmental stimuli.
Driving in unfamiliar areas and missing a sign.
Plenty of ways genuinely good people can make the error.

Can we ask the same question for people who use their mobile phones and for people who just casually drive 55/60 in 80 zones?

I live near a few schools and regularly get overtaken for slowing down to 40 during the allotted times. Some zones are permanent 40 and it still happens. Although I live in a town where a lot of drivers seem to think if there’s no visible police presence you can drive however you like so I’m never surprised.

Scorching take: certain roads shouldn’t be school zones. Specifically, Dandenong Rd. but you can expand that to any dual carriageway road.

People who speed in school zones are absolute bottom feeders. A short while ago going through one, I was doing 40, others doing 50, then an older woman in a shitty old van cut through us all doing at least 70. She went past coppers with a speed gun who never moved. WTF? Was wondering if she was their mum. Pissed me off no end.

I work to a really sporadic schedule, I don’t have kids. In a given moment, it’s not uncommon for me to have no idea what day of the week it is. If I haven’t checked the time for a while, I don’t know what time it is.
If I’m in this state when I come across one of these types of signs, my brain explodes.

I have noticed that when I’m going 40 in a school zone it’s normally women with children in the car that are so far up my ass trying to go 60. I don’t get it, we are doing this for your kids!

What about people who stop their cars literally on the train tracks at a level crossing? I don’t know if they are reckless or just morons.

Most of the bus lanes around me are only bus lanes Monday to Friday, and only at certain times. The looks I get on weekends from other motorists crack me up.
Would love it if people stopped tailgating me in school zones, though.

Don’t have kids, don’t usually travel during school hours (commute is super early) so sometimes I will accidentally go through a school zone at 60 at 230 pm on the way to the doctors or something.

They changed a section of whitehorse road from 80 to 70 so the school zone can be 40 instead of 60 and for that section it seems a bit overkill tbh when there’s a service road before the school too, and seeing everyone go 50/60 anyway through it

they don’t think the risk of a fine is very high, and they don’t care about why the limit is there and who they’re endangering by breaking the rules. the number of people who go past me at 10+km/h over the speed limit on narrow or curvy roads is endlessly frustrating
