Paris Picard has been living in Chania, Crete, since 2024. She and her husband moved from Texas to Greece on a so-called “digital nomad visa”.
This visa is for people who work remotely and earn at least €3500.00 per month. She left her stressful job in the tech industry behind and now runs her own online business. One of the reasons for the move was to improve her work-life balance.
Life in Crete is more relaxed, with many Greeks taking more time for friends, family and hobbies. Security and the high cost of healthcare in the US were also decisive factors behind her decision.
But there are challenges in Crete, from the language barrier to problems finding a place to live.
