Hello all!
We are moving out from a rented apartment after living there for a bit over 4 years.
It’s a quite old apartment and it only has one power outlet in the living room, so I had to do some magic with extension cords and cable guides. I used these long cable covers all over the room, glued to the walls with double sided tape.
Now we are doing some preparations for the move, cleaning up etc. and I started taking them off. Of course it seems the glue from the tape got integrated with the wall (see photos). I tried many different things to remove them- ideas from forums, youtube and chatgpt, but nothing seems to work efficiently 😅
I tried:
– isopropanol and a rag
– UHU adhesive remover
– WD40
– olive oil
– pencil eraser
– magic sponge from temu
– sanding paper
Some of these things don’t work at all. Some of them work a tiny bit, but not very efficiently (meaning cleaning up everything would take like full week of work).
So I would have the following questions:
1) Has anyone had a similar problem and knows some other method that could work?
2) Should I just take the paint off and repaint these spots? Maybe that would be more efficient… But I am not great with renovation work so what would be the best way to take the paint off? 😅
3) Should I just maybe ignore it? We have lived here for 4 years. The previous tenant has most likely lived here for a few years too and the walls were not repainted after him. The „Lebensdauertabelle” says that walls have a lifetime of 8-15 years. So maybe it’s more sensible to just swallow the costs and pay the price if it’s only <50%. I also have a liability insurance with „gross negligence” so maybe it could be used here 😅
What do you think? I would really appreciate any comment on any of these 3 matters 😊

Try warming just one section (one or two inches) with the hairdryer and then put another sticker or tape on top to pull it away. If it works, repeat for the rest.
Try with alcohol, let it absorb and melt the glue, when it’s damp try taking it away.
Dispersion paint.
That’s damage that can’t be removed easily unless repainting, so you’ll have to pay
Alcohol to remove as much as possible and then this https://www.galaxus.ch/en/s4/product/molto-sos-easy-spackling-paste-17760017
Try with magic sponge, it works like a really fine sand paper, maybe it will help, nothing to lose here. Use it only on the glue, otherwise you’ll most likely remove the pain all around.
Try some glue removal spray like this one… But make sure to first try it on the wall on a section that you cant really see to make sure it doesnt affect the paint.

You’ll have to pay. It’s easier.
