  1. And we’ll pay for his hospital, re-hab etc. the car driver will get their insurance company to sue for restitution…so public courts will be used 🤦‍♂️

And why would a police officer not impound the bike the night before? Unlicensed with an illegal e motorcycle?

The govt could have solved all this by just controlling importation of the vehicles – now we’re overrun with them on my shared footpath. Pure negligence

I have zero sympathy – luckily he didn’t kill himself or anyone else. 2 broken legs is nothing compared to what could have happened

On Sunday, saw 2 of these dipshits try to bring their bike into a Woolworths because they didn’t want to lock it up outside. Security had to ask them to leave, they did, but what the fuck makes them think that it’ll fit down the aisles of a Woolworths?!

  5. It would appear electric motorbikes are offsetting the harm caused by putting warning labels on everything.

  6. “As he moved forward, a vehicle turning in front of him resulted in a heavy impact that saw the rider fully ejected from his bike.”

I think the lesson that is to be learnt here is – people do motorbike licences for a reason.

One of the absolutely key messages – which is in the learners manual – is lane positioning and how to be in blind spots for as little time as possible.

There are probably about 30 or 40 other life saving tips they give you – and they test that you can execute quite a few of them.

We are surrounded by these bikes now. We had a peaceful reserve up the road but now it’s just a place for kids with electric trail bikes to ride.

It won’t be long before they require some kind of permit.

  8. I had a clown on one of these bikes do a wheelie behind me while I was braking to turn into my driveway.

I don’t know why there is no police enforcement for unlicensed underaged riders using unregistered vehicles on public roads.

Wow! If only we had laws preventing such dangerous and life-threatening activities. SMH.

Selected quotes make me wonder why on earth VicPol only cautioned this guy, and why they did not take an unlicensed and uninsured rider’s illegal bike off the road on the spot???

“Victoria Police confirmed that the same individual had been officially cautioned just the evening before for riding the same electric motorcycle on public roads.”

“the bike appears to be a Surron Ultra Bee X HP….. explicitly marketed as a non-ADR, off-road only model.”

“the rider was unlicensed and on an illegal vehicle”

  11. Altona north…. Almost 100% this will be one of the generational fuckwit kids who’ve made a practice of this antisocial shit for the past 7 odd years. One or two from a ‘well known’ family in the area. Dad also makes a habit of riding his dirt bike like a clown shoe, complete with sassy YSL sling bag, up and down Millers road at 100+ kph. Popping sick wheelies for absolutely no one.

The article says throttle controlled motorbikes up to 200w are legal and no mention of max speed. I thought all throttle bikes were illegal, including the delivery rider ones. What sort of speed could one do with 200w? Assuming you’re a skinny 14yo?

I assume all these illegal bikes are only supposed to be used on private land and a shared bike path is considered public land, but not a road.

  13. There’s all these roaming teen gangs on bikes in my area. I wouldnt be surprised if this is one of the hoodlums I always see. They are pests.

  14. TacitisKilgoreBoah on

But I thought these were illegal? Why would someone break the law when they know the consequences? It doesn’t make sense

at least they called it what it is: an ***electronic motorbike*** and NOT an ebike.

there is a vast gaping chasm of difference between the two, and the damn media needs to start calling them different things instead of just calling everything an ebike.

these are Motorcycles that have all the performance of a normal motorcycle, they just have an electric motor instead of a petrol one.

and somehow idiot parents think that means they are safe for their kids to ride around on.

    fools.

  16. I literally just saw a teen riding an e-bike in Melbourne CBD running a red light down tram tracks an hour ago – thought this was him.
